turning awareness into action

Student service, in the fight against ALS.

We are a student-driven service organization dedicated to raising awareness and supporting the fight against ALS through hands-on community engagement, education, and fundraising.

Our Mission

Our club is built on the belief that students have the ability to make a real and lasting impact—both within the Notre Dame community and in the broader ALS community. Members are not simply volunteers; they are actively involved in developing initiatives, building partnerships, raising funds, and creating meaningful change.

Our ultimate goal is to build a model that connects the power of student service with the need for ALS research. We hope to support research at major ALS research institutes across the country while developing a sustainable system that can eventually bring this same commitment to ALS research and funding to Notre Dame. Through the dedication and creativity of our students, we aim to turn awareness into action and action into progress.

What is ALS?

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a progressive neurological disorder that primarily affects brain and spinal cord nerve cells. These nerve cells, known as motor neurons, control voluntary muscle movements necessary for activities like walking, talking, and eventually breathing. As ALS progresses, these motor neurons deteriorate, leading to a loss of muscle control and eventual paralysis.

ALS manifests in a variety of ways, with symptoms varying from person to person. Common symptoms include muscle weakness, twitching, difficulty speaking, swallowing problems, and eventually, respiratory challenges. This disease not only affects physical abilities but also poses emotional and psychological challenges for individuals and their families.
